FKI Logistex to Introduce Ergo Volume™ at ALA Annual Conference
Ergonomically designed bulk container reduces re-shelving time and maximizes item collection space for automated library sortation systems
23 June 2008
(ST. LOUIS: June 23, 2008) FKI Logistex® (www.fkilogistex.com), a global leader in integrated material handling solutions, will introduce its new Ergo Volume™ bulk container at the American Library Association's 2008 Annual Conference, to be held in Anaheim, Calif., June 26-July 2. A new addition to the FKI Logistex library automation system, the Ergo Volume is an ergonomic cart for bulk collection and reshelving of returned library materials. Its large capacity and compact size make it ideal for use in conjunction with FKI Logistex automated check-in systems.
FKI Logistex library solutions automate the returns process, allowing patrons to check-in books and other materials and obtain a receipt without assistance, 24 hours a day. These solutions also improve the overall library experience by offering ergonomic benefits to employees, and ensuring that materials are returned to circulation more quickly. Items returned to the library are scanned and sorted based on their final stack destination and collected and transported to shelves in mobile containers, such as the Ergo Volume.
The Ergo Volume's narrow design allows the container to fit into the same docking position as the more compact Ergo Cart, while boosting the library's storage capabilities. Used in conjunction with 24/7 Library Mate® self-check-in kiosks, the Ergo Volume offers libraries the flexibility of storing large quantities of returned items overnight and allows library staff to restock items at their convenience.
As employees restock shelves, the floor of the Ergo Volume automatically raises to waist height, eliminating the need for employees to bend over to reach items and minimizing the physical stress of lifting heavy items. The Ergo Volume also features locking wheels and manually adjustable spring tension to compensate for items of varying weight.
"The ALA Annual Conference gives library personnel the opportunity to see what's new in library automation technology," said Cory McCoy, general manager, FKI Logistex North America. "The Ergo Volume is our latest solution for simplifying the sortation process and allowing libraries to provide around-the-clock services to their patrons."
FKI Logistex sortation and collection systems have already revitalized the library sortation process at libraries such as the Minneapolis Central Library and the San Francisco Public Library. The case study for the Minneapolis Central Library can be found at www.fkilogistex.com
The Ergo Volume will be demonstrated at Booth 242 during the exhibition portion of the ALA conference. The exhibits will be hosted in the Anaheim Convention Center, located at 800 West Katella Avenue in Anaheim, Calif.
